How to get your Small business PR in Australian Magazines
If your small business or company is an advertiser within a magazine it is often a good place to start generating PR as well. You may be able to tie in some ‘editorial mentions’ into your advertising package. Remember that some titles are more flexible with the PR support they can offer. It doesn’t hurt to ask the question though.
Small business owners and marketing managers should make an effort to meet the editorial teams. You can use your sales representative to help facilitate this. Come prepared with product samples, press releases and a good attitude. Remember that editors are people who will find your product more appealing if you are an approachable person to deal with.
If you are not an advertiser skip the advertising department and head straight to the editorial team. You will often find the names of all the relevant staff on the staff listing which is often very close to the Letter from the Editor. This is the best place to start. Offer product viewings, samples and press releases. Make sure your information is available and easy to access high resolution images, RRP and contact details. Remember not to spam Editors emails with huge files. Small businesses should treat them as the ultimate client! Their ‘free’ publicity can be worth gold to your company.
